The Crue-Digitalization sector commission has launched its biennial report “Universitic 2022”, which reveals the level of digital maturity of Spanish universities, that is, the degree of success with which they have implemented new technologies to optimize their results in all areas. institution processes. This pioneering international study is an exercise in transparency in which a total of 62 university institutions have participated, 87% of those associated with Crue.

Universitic uses the md4u digital maturity model, which consists of 21 areas, 37 strategic objectives and 334 indicators, which determine the degree of digitalization of the university and establish improvement objectives. This method has been applied to the 30 institutions that have completed the last two editions (2020 and 2022).

The report maintains that universities are evolving compared to the previous edition in their digital maturity in the four areas analyzed: innovation, government management and transformation, the last with almost a 30% increase. Likewise, there is progress in the seven strategic challenges: extending digital culture and skills; optimize information security; obtain competitive advantage with quality services; meet student demands; have knowledge to make decisions and achieve the strategic objectives of the university.

The document highlights that universities have increased investment in IT thanks to the financing of 33.1 million euros from European funds, which have made it possible to launch initiatives to increase the digital competence of students, teaching and administrative staff. Furthermore, in parallel, the number of universities that evaluate their digital skills has increased.

In 2022, three out of four universities designed a strategy to promote teaching and research programs; digital support grew in face-to-face teaching; The research was energized and the results were made visible thanks to technology. Regarding the latter, the report confirms that 75% of universities have plans for the digital dissemination of scientific activity.
