With an average stay of 8 months, scholarship recipients under 30 years of age will receive training and experience abroad. Since 2012, 5,003 young people have benefited from this scholarship.
500 young people have received recognition from the Global Training scholarships to do business internships abroad that the Basque Government grants through the Basque Internationalization Agency-Basque Trade and Investment of the SPRI Group. Specifically, the Global Training Scholarships are designed to promote international mobility and it is an essential requirement to have a university degree or higher degree vocational training.
The event took place in the Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park and was attended by the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, the Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, the General Director of the SPRI Group, Aitor Urzelai and the Director of BT&I, Ainhoa Ondarzabal, as well as representatives of the collaborating entities: Chambers of Commerce, Confebask, Adegi, Politeknika Ikastegia Txorierri, Hetel, Ikaslan, AFM Cluster, Fomento San Sebastian, Garapen, UPV-EHU, Fundación Novia Salcedo, HABIC and Idarte.
The young people who have received the certification will carry out professional internships in more than 344 top-level companies and organizations located in 60 different countries on 5 continents. To mention some of these companies are the Fraunhofer Institute, Microsoft, Harvard Medical School, UN Women, along with leading Basque companies from the strategic sectors of the Basque Country, established abroad.
This scholarship program is one of the actions that are part of the creation of talent that Euskadi needs to be able to continue growing. Companies demand prepared people and this experience provides the youth of Euskadi with the possibility of acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary for professional performance with the added value of being able to do so in an international and multicultural environment.
The program offers the opportunity to train professionally abroad, carrying out paid internships in companies or institutions, appropriate to the academic specialty of each young person.
The program aims to ensure that the knowledge and skills acquired abroad can return to Euskadi. And in the event that scholarship recipients decide to extend their stays abroad, they can also serve the interests of the Basque economy from there.
The budget allocation is intended for:
- Provisions for 500 places of 1,635 euros gross per month, for 6 months.
- Management expenses for each collaborating entity of 1,000 euros per place.
- Training expense item of 40 hours per scholarship recipient.
- Item for insurance coverage of scholarship recipients: Travel/medical benefit.
They are scholarships lasting a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months, and according to the offers received from the collaborating entities, the average duration thanks to the extensions that the entities make possible will be approximately 8 months.
The scholarships are aimed at young people with higher education (Degrees, bachelor’s degrees or vocational training) up to the age of 30, with a command of level B1 and B2 English.
