Garikoitz Mujika, from the Basque Country, has won the gold medal in the European Vocational Training Olympics in the CAD Mechanical Design category, while Mateo Rubao, from Galicia, has won the bronze medal in the Welding category, according to informed the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
The general secretary of Vocational Training, Clara Sanz, received this Monday the Spanish Vocational Training Team upon their arrival at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Bajaras airport, after having participated in the eighth edition of the European FP championship ‘Euroskills’ 2023, held from September 6 to 8 in the city of Gdansk (Poland).
“Those of us who work in one way or another in this matter are very proud of you for everything you have achieved. Each and every one of you is an example of the quality and excellence of Vocational Training in our country,” he assured. Sanz.
The Spanish team, made up of 30 students and recent graduates in Vocational Training, are the current champions of the Spanish event ‘Spainskills’ 2022, organized by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
In addition, the National Team has won eight medals of excellence for the quality of their work in this biannual competition, also known as the European Olympics of Vocational Training.
This is the largest event for Vocational Training and excellence in skills in Europe, in which around 600 young people under 25 years of age and from 32 countries have competed to become the best in their specialty.
Competitors have participated in 43 different modalities such as CAD mechanical design, CNC milling, Welding, 3D animation, Plumbing and heating, Electronics, Web development, Electrical installations, Carpentry, Hairdressing, Cooking or Restaurant and bar service, among others.
The idea of this type of championship arose in Spain, where the first international Vocational Training competition was held in 1950 in which twelve students from Portugal and the host country participated.
